16th March 2013 was declared the World Adventist Youth Day by the Global Conference Youth Ministries to mark the beginning of the Youth Week of Prayer. Different Adventist communities usually hold their Youth Week of Prayer at a different time of the year, but this time it was decided that all communities would unite on that specific date for a common purpose; molded around the day’s theme of ‘One in Compassion.’
To mark this auspicious ocassion, the Kajiado North District youth Adventist Community took to heart the day’s theme and the strategies built around it involving Sabbath-friendly acts of kindness; and to this end, about 100 youth converged at the Faraja Adventist Children Centre to worship with and bring comfort and love to the orphans and vulnerable children there.
Located adjacent to the Ngong Township Primary School off the Ngong-Kiserian Road in Kajiado North District, Faraja Adventist Children’s Centre cares for 38 children ranging in age from 2yrs to 17yrs, most of whom are total orphans and all of whom are incredibly vulnerable and in need of care and protection. The centre is the initiative of Martha Moraa Bosire (Mum Moraa), who is also its Director, and it has been in existence for almost ten years.
Bearing gifts of foodstuffs and stationery, the youths started streaming into the Faraja Adventist Children Centre as early as 10am, where they were welcomed in joy and song by the children and staff who had already prepared a pulpit ofr the day’s worship at the Centre’s dining hall. By 11am the guests had all arrived, and together with the children, they enjoyed a full hour singing beautiful hymns and praising the Lord of the Sabbath for his Magnificence.
Afterwards, Mum Moraa formally welcomed the guests and gave thanks to the Lord for their presence, after which she invited the main celebrant, Pastor Ken from the Ngong Seventh Day Adventist Community Church, to minister to the congregation. Pastor Ken then rose and gave a powerful sermon built around the day’s main message of ‘Making Jesus Real’, in which he beautifully wove numerous Bible stories into a clarion call to the youth to use their talents in honesty and confidence to making Jesus’ Kingdom a reality on earth.
The congregation broke off at 1pm and enjoyed lunch with the children, which was followed by entertainment from the children before everybody involved themselves in a bonding session packed with lots of fun and games. Later, the gifts which the guests had brought for the children were formally handed to Mum Moraa in a short devotion and thanksgiving ceremony, after which the guests retreated back to the Ngong Seventh Day Adventist Church for the rest of the World Adventist Youth Day’s celebrations programme.
Faraja Adventist Children Centre gives thanks to the Lord for his Mercies and is proud to be associated with the Seventh Day Adventist community. We were honored by the presence of our guests and warmly welcome them again.
